The Estonian Ornithological Society (EOÜ) once more calls on all bird enthusiasts to help count white stork nests. This is one of the EOÜ’s long-term monitoring projects and to carry it out a simple web application has been created that is easy to use for all:
By the new web application, data on the location of the nest can be entered and also information on the nesting results. While we have to wait a few more months to know the nesting results, data on the location of the nest can be entered throughout the year.
During the current year an international census will also be carried out covering the whole of the white stork habitat, from which we will learn how white storks have fared during the last 10 years. At present the abundance of white storks in Estonia is estimated at 4000-5000 pairs.
This year’s census will show how many actually nest in Estonia.
