Forest felling made large errant boulder visible
Errrant boulder presented by Uuno Kask

An already 50 years old memory of a giant errant boulder in the forest near the then Aanati village came to mind. Now there is nothing left of this village or the neighbouring village of Linnanõmme where I lived at that time and went to school in Mustvee, other than lands overgrown with thicket or planted with forest, and the foundations of the houses. Not even the names of the villages remain and the areas now belong to East Virumaa, the Piilsi village in Lohusuu parish.
There were few clues to finding the large boulder, much has changed in nature. Old forester Ilmar Tammasru and his wife were a great help; with their directions the boulder was found in the forest. That clear-felling had been carried out around the boulder this year was a great help.
The boulder is the largest in this area, the size of a small sauna, and it is situated a few hundred meters from the road that has been built on the former Mustvee-Sonda railway embankment.
The Alltoa boulder can be found on going on the Tartu-Jõhvi road for about 2 kilometres towards Jõhvi from the Mustvee-Jõgeva crossing (Statoil petrol station), from there to the left – towards north, about 4,5 km along a straight forest road until the high-voltage power lines (there are three of them). From there you have to proceed on foot along the middle power line to the right (towards east) – the signpost shows ALLTOA KIVI 400m, until the third tower on the line and there, to the right of the clear-felled area the boulder is visible. In a rainy period bring your rubber boots!
The stone is marked with a signboard – the Alltoa boulder (in the old days it was called the Aldu bolder)
