Keri island

At the end of June I was offered the opportunity to land for a night and morning on Keri island where I had three splendid bird experiences!

To start with – on Keri there is still a viable joint colony of herring gulls and eiders..

Herring gull    Hõbekajakas     Larus argentatus

Eider        Hahk            Somateria mollissima

I remember how 25 years ago such combined lifestyle was quite common on many West Estonian isles....

Secondly – there were more razorbills on the island than I had dared to hope, or some twenty birds.

Thirdly – between the sea stones three ruddy shelducks were busy. They foraged like brent geese, scraping off the green algae that covered the slippery rocks.
