Young brown bear observing another bear approaching from the right

The Alutaguse brown bear webcam season this year has had the greatest frequency of visitors of all the four operating years. This season the bears were really easy to see from the shelter. Five different individuals were seen and nearly every day one or two brown bears visited the observation ground.

At the end of May we also saw in the webcam a mating pair and it was several years since the last opportunity.

Exciting moments were provided by the meeting of two bears on the observation ground. Adult brown bears are known not to like each other particularly and so the older and larger brown bear started to teach the younger his place. The younger bear was no longer just a puppy so he glowered at the bear walking towards him on its hind legs for some 10 seconds.
When the power ranking was clear the older pursued the younger one some 300 meters along the forest road – the tracks were clearly visible the next morning.

The spring-summer Alutaguse bear camera season is at an end. The brown bears have plenty of food in the forest, all wild berries are ripening. We will meet again at the end of August!.
