The water level is extremely low in all our waters, temperatures high and the fish groggy – no problem for raptors and beasts of prey to catch fish …

 

Why do we often see the osprey nest empty? The young ospreys no longer like to eat the fish brought by the parents in the nest – better fly somewhere else so that the sibling-food competitor cannot suddenly grab the fish. But they don’t trust themselves to fly away with fish of more than a couple of hundred grams, such fish have been spilled in flight and looking for it in the vegetation is tricky. Easier to fly back to the nest to beg a new fish from the parents – but life will teach when they have to start fishing on their own.
