Two days old partridge chick fits perfectly into match box

 

Now is a good time to register the broods of partridges: LINK

 

Since chicks in some clutches are already quite big, it is worthwhile to note quickly, as the group rises into flight, the varying size of the birds (in order to estimate the number of adult birds), particularly in case of larger flocks, where for instance already two broods have joined.

 

Determination of the numbers in a brood when they are busy in the grass is quite difficult because the chicks are very small to start with – see photo.
