Grass of Parnassus
Why should we go to damp and rather dull cut hayfields? We might still find the slightly honey-scented grass of Parnassus flowering there. The plant is low, only grows up to some twenty centimetres in height, it has not much of a chance in competition with other plants before hay is cut. Near the ground the leaf rosette has long-stemmed ovately cordate leaves with entire margins. The delicate and beautiful flowers are placed singly on bare stems.
The habitats of the grass of Parnassus, quite common earlier – wet or bogged hayfields – are simply being overgrown in Estonia.
