Boar on highway
The veterinary centre specialist, Virgo Roose, who had dissected the carcass of the boar found dead in Valgamaa in Hummuli, near Aitsra village, sent samples from it to the veterinary laboratory. The next day a preliminary answer was given: the boar was infected with African swine pest fever. For official confirmation of the diagnosis samples were sent to a laboratory in Madrid, Spain, and yesterday morning confirmation of the African swine fever discovered in the samples arrived.
Lately hunting of wild boar has intensified in Latvia. Of course hunting sets the animals moving. Such hunting is not considered justified by the European Union.
On Monday the National Infectious Animal Disease Control Commission met in order to decide whether and how to hunt wild boar.
