Ilmar landing with prey …

 

And the nest is empty. On Saturday the shrill calls of the young ospreys could still be heard, on Sunday both a great tit and a jay came to investigate the nest.

 

As first to depart, the female started her migration already a month ago; ospreys have this tradition. Our ospreys equipped with transmitters mostly winter in the western part of Africa – Angola, Gabon, Kongo, Sudan, Ethiopia. They are very good fliers: for the 6 000 kilometre migration they use less than a month. Without fear they also cross great water bodies.
