On Monday morning at 9 o’clock a female trout obviously with a reputation of being very fecund started her spawning in camera view – four larger and competitive males circled around the lady, smaller fry could not be counted and the cospecifics are sure to know whom to focus on. The female spawned into at least four nests near each other. In digging the next hole the gravel that was pushed up covered the nest before with roe already fertilised by the male. The whole ritual lasted until 3 p.m. and continued in the evening with a new spawning pair. Exciting day.
On Sunday activity in camera view was less because the spawners were downstream. The water level increased an inch with the rain and visibility decreased with the increase in water flow.
