Goshawk and crow
This year as well the working group continued the monitoring of the numbers and propagation success of raptors, and particular attention was payed to two threatened species – goshawk and eagle owl.
With the cool and rainy start to this summer the numbers stayed smaller than last year for the insect-dependent species – honey buzzard and hobby (Falco subbuteo) - but they still remained above the long-term average.
For several Falconiformes species that feed on small rodents such as buzzard, kestrel, marsh harrier and Montague’s harrier, abundances were lower than last year but still remained close to the average; the number of hen harriers is very low.
The abundance of lesser spotted eagle, goshawk and pygmy owl are on the long-term monitoring mean level.
The mild winter last year with little snow was favourable for the Ural owl and tawny owl that remain here all year. Their abundance as well as reproductive success increased.
Finding three nests of the hawk owl after the numerous immigration during last winter is worth noting.
