Buzzards have been chosen for the Birds of the Year for 2015. Three buzzard species can be encountered in Estonia: the buzzard, the most numerous and one of the best known hawks, the honey buzzard, intriguing and with a secretive life mode and the rough-legged buzzard occurring here outside its nesting period – they are similar in appearance but as for lifestyle quite different birds of prey. In the Year of the Buzzards we will introduce all three species and their habits, focusing attention on telling them apart from each other and from other birds of prey.
The nicely designed Bird of the Year website is open: LINK
As the year proceeds it will be filled with current information about the life of buzzards as well as the events of the Year of the Buzzard.
As of today onwards, everyone can forward their observations via the home page. By this you will help us to improve knowledge about our buzzards. We look forward to all observations of buzzards made beginning from December 1st 2014. are welcome.
