The winter garden bird watch is the most popular birdwatching event in Estonia. Observation period this year is from January 23 to 25, and it is the greatest citizen science action with almost 3500 people taking part last year, that is, almost every 380th person in Estonia.
Taking part in the garden birdwatch is very simple: on the last weekend of January you need to find an hour of time, go out into your home garden or a park and note the bird species that you meet there. Information gathered at the garden bird watches are used to monitor changes in the numbers of winter birds which makes it possible to take measures to improve the wellbeing of the birds if necessary.
