Bird spring

Bewick’s swans

Almost 10 days in a row of favourable winds for migration, some days outright spring warmth, birdsong echoing from morning until evening. From Wednesday the wind turned to northerly until the end or the week, making migration more scarce.

In addition to larks and lapwings bigger arrivals delight us: wood pigeons and stock pigeons, the buzzards, birds of the year. Swans and Branta geese and Anser geese, even cranes have reached the northern coast. Bitterns have been heard. In Põlva white storks were seen already before Women’s day, now elsewhere too.

Maple sap doesn’t flow any longer, best not to be late with collecting birch sap.
