In March the peak period of the ravens’ display flights has almost passed; the pairs that still have no eggs in the nest keep their “dance and chase” to the nesting area. About 5 000 raven pairs breed in Estonia.
When there are 2-3 eggs in the clutch the female starts incubating, but she will lay some more eggs at the beginning of the incubation. Only the male is active in the pair’s territory now; he feeds the female during the incubation and checks the family territory. In such a warm spring as this year, chicks may already have hatched in some nests.
