 Yesterday we noticed the first hole in the white-tailed eagle egg. The chick “interacted” with its parents by sound already a few days earlier although it had not hatched yet. The windy weather did not allow us a full view, but the adults paid more attention to the egg and we heard their calls. For larger birds hatching usually takes longer than one day. The chick also must get used to breathing oxygen.

 

In any case, this morning a little before 7 o’clock the eagle chick hatched – with the aid of its so called egg tooth that is located on the top of the beak and drops off soon after the hatching.

 

Less than an hour later the female already had started to feed the new citizen…
