The osprey pair had laid the first egg on Monday morning. We are talking about the first nest on the osprey nest webcam page, the nest called ”Ilmar and Irma’s”, after the residents last year.

 

Actually the residents now in both the osprey nests with webcam are new and probably also young birds. In both nests one in the pair has a ring, thus we know their age as well as origin.

 

„Ilmar and Irma’s nest“ is occupied since April 14th by a ringed male bird  - with a black polymer ring with the code J3 in white. This means that the specific individual was hatched in 2011 in the Alam-Pedja Nature Reserve, and was ringed by Joosep Tuvi, as one of three chicks in the nest. The birthplace of J3 is about 16 km away from the present nest.

 

In the video we see an osprey that has arrived, swooping down on the nest . Time will show if we have to do with one of the previous residents or a stray visitor. Anything can happen at the nest. Let us keep watch!

 

The second nest – where the first egg was laid on Saturday – is also occupied by young birds nesting for the first time.
