Joosep  and Irma’s nest (previous years Ilmar and Irma’s nest)

Osprey    Kalakotkas    Pandion haliaetus

What, then, is the actual situation which an observant viewer pointed out.

On April 14th a ringed male bird – black polymer ring with the white code J3 – settled in the nest. The code tells us that the specific individual was hatched in 2011 in the Alam-Pedja Nature reserve area. He was ringed by Joosep Tuvi, as one of three chicks in the nest. The birthplace of J3 is about 16 km away from the present nest.

The male eagle has been visited by several ”brides” at the nest. An egg was laid in the nest by ”ancient inhabitant ” Irma - her ring sign is U5, also visible in the video.

We will not start changing the labels in the osprey webcam page before ”nesting order” is firmly established.

Mai and Mikk´s nest – (last year the nest of  Madis and Piret).

The second osprey pair had their second egg in the nest yesterday, but only to be guessed at. Today everything was nicely visible, when the male bird was feeding his mate with a fish. The first egg was laid by the female on May 2nd. We have to do with young birds nesting for the first time: the male without rings has been busy at the nest from April 20nd, his mate arrived on April 23rd, and she is ringed. The code 29 shows that the female osprey was hatched in 2012, 70 km to the north, in the northern part of the Emajõe-Suursoo. The ringer was Joosep Tuvi who ringed three osprey chicks in this nest.
