VIDEO: How does a lesser spotted eagle pair choose their nest?
Video recorded by Urmas Lett
Translation Liis
Lesser spotted eagle Väike-konnakotkas Aquila pomarina
A familiar nest location isn’t it? But some LSE pairs have several nests in their territory and change between them over the years – for different reasons.
The video that Urmas has recorded is from the 1st of May. The nest is always selected by the female bird. She is bigger and also the first to arrive with a spruce sprig to the nest. The male demonstrates in every way that he is caring, a skilled builder, good hunter …
The LSE pair will not use this nest this year.
The number of lesser spotted eagles in Estonia is estimated at 500–600 nesting pairs, occurring in all of mainland Estonia.
