Black stork Must-toonekurg Ciconia nigra
This year we have no sure indications to estimate the hatching date for the black stork eggs. The female laid 4 eggs - which is a quite common clutch size – on April 7th, 9th, 11th and 13rd.
On April 24th a white-tailed eagle destroyed 2 eggs in the nest – who knows which ones were left. The recorded videos provide an overview: LINK
Both adults incubate the eggs. During the last few days they have brought a substantial amount of moss to the nest. As the video shows the nest bottom needs drainage so that life in the nest will not become too waterlogged. The rains of the last weeks have turned the nest bottom wet.
The incubation period in previous years has lasted a few days less than five weeks, so things should be happening quite soon in the nest. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for the black stork pair!
