This year with its cool, changeable and rainy weather has not been the most favourable for the nesting of honey buzzards, but time will tell. At least the adults visit the nest and calls are heard from outside the camera view.
In the video the male appears first at the nest, with prey. His back plumage is greyish brown (belly lighter). The head plumage is greyish blue, and eyes are of course bright yellow. They nest for the first time at an age of three years.
He tempted the female to the nest with a prey of a bird chick. Her plumage is noticeably darker and the head plumage dark brown, with gleaming bright yellow eyes.
Honey buzzards are often confused with common buzzards. They are not really rare either – there are maybe a thousand pairs as breeders.
