January 10 – 18, 2009.

The Mahtra wetland area is unique in its beauty and diversity. Large fen areas alternate with moors, wooded transition zones and meadows. Beautiful miniature bog islets offer attractions almost equal to uninhabited sea islands. Many ramblers have in fact compared the Mahtra wetlands to the coastal islet protection areas of Hiiumaa.

In years with abundant water you have to know where it is possible to get through, and where your adrenalin level will rise to above-critical. With a strong ice cover January of this year has brought a pleasant chance to explore the beautiful places of Mahtra marsh without great risks. So hereby the Mahtra Marsh Ice Days are announced, and the main activity will of course be rambles in the marsh.

Come and discover the Kingdom of frosted pines on white snow carpets for yourself!

The guided rambles will take place daily on January 10 -18, starting at 11:00 a.m. from Mahtra Rahvakool, and lasting 2-5 hours depending on the numbers, capacity, and wishes of the participants. Price 150.-, students 75.-.

Preregistration is required, telephone 50 76 214, or e-mail to mahtra.rahvakool [at] mail.ee.

NB! Wind- and damp-resistant clothing, water-resistant footwear. We also recommend to bring energy-boosting snacks, and a thermos with hot drinks.
