Mountain melick

Mountain melick    Longus helmikas     Melica nutans

We only notice the mountain melick when it flowers.

Melicks grow in wooded meadows and deciduous and mixed forests, always where there is shade – they dislike sunny positions. They also grow in the forest itself but there they simply will not bloom.

Mountain melick develops two kinds of stems: inflorescences are born on long and upright stems, the other stems are lower, on the ground, have more leaves and just stay unnoticed by us.

The melicks with their brownish stem tops are treasured by flower arrangers: the stems last for almost a year quite as we picked them.
