Team Rc & Co – repeatedly winner of the bird rallies
On the coming Saturday, August 15th, the birdwatching rally Estonian Open takes place, organised by the Estbirding and Viron Lintuseura. It is the oldest and most popular bird rally in Estonia. This year it takes place in East Viru County.
67 participants in 16 teams will be competing this year – 7 from Estonia, 7 from Finland, 1 from Latvia and for the first time, 1 from Lithuania.
Victor of the rally will be the team that from 3 o’clock in early morning until 5 o’clock in the afternoon has registered the greatest number of bird species. All species must be seen or heard by more than half of the team members. The competition will be made more exciting by the fact that at this time of the year birds no longer sing and finding them needs more work. Audio devices to lure birds are not allowed at the competition.
How many species the teams actually will see on Saturday depends very much on the weather. A calm day without rain would be the best for the birdwatchers. In good watching conditions the best team certainly might find more than 140 bird species.
The summary of the rally this year will take place in the East Viru County recreation and vacation centre of Remnik, where also the winner of the rally will be announced.
