Cormorant count - 2009

Cormorant.
 
As mentioned before there will be a cormorant count in paralel with the mid-winter waterfowl count. The main dates will be, as with the waterfowl, January 17th and 18th, but information from January 15th to January 25th can also be sent in. The main difference compared to the waterfowl count is that the cormorant count should be carried out at the cormorants’ roosting places, and on the birds’ arrival or departure from there. We believe, however, that in addition all birds feeding during daytime can be registered, since it is not very likely that here in Estonia the feeding and roosting areas differ significantly (I primarily refer to winter conditions). In the winter the cormorants are repeatedly observed at their habitual locations (Harilaid, Undva, Põõsaspea, Paljassaare etc). Besides, cormorants have never been very numerous winter birds (100 – 300 individuals)
