VIDEO: Seal and eagle

Adult grey seals will not pay particular attention to a white-tailed eagle when lying about on the shore. When swimming however they dive just in case when an eagle approaches because if an unexpected attack were to happen the sharp talons of the eagle might injure the eyes and face of the seal. White-tailed eagles sometimes try to scratch the head of a swimming eagle with its feet.
The eagle in the video is 3 winters old – the body plumage is still multicoloured. The white-tailed eagle will get white tail feathers on becoming adult, or in a couple of years. The wing feathers have already changed to a uniform brown in the top part (on a 2 winters old bird they too are still brown- and white-patterned).
