Astronomical autumn starts at 11.21 (Estonian time)

 

After the autumn equinox evening darkness arrives after sunset, already an hour later we can see stars in the sky if the weather is cloudless. It is the time of equal day and night length; today night is not yet longer than day.

 

Phenological early autumn started with the decrease in day warmth but this year nature offers us a quite beautiful season: grain crops are still being harvested, on trees we see the first brightly coloured leaves, forest undergrowth is more transparent, birds already migrate … 

 

If sunny days come this ”old women’s summer” can last, with intervals, until mid-October.

 

Late autumn in nature starts with a massive fall of tree leaves, geese leave and migration of swans goes on. Plant development stops, they harden off to start their rest period.

 

Pre-winter starts with the first big snowfall but there is still some time left until then.

 

A bright and colourful autumn to enjoy!
