Moose in bog pinewood.

The elk, or moose, elevated by Rein Maran to King of the Forest, will probably not be seen on camera this winter: elks move little during winter, saving their energy instead. But other traces of its activities can be found, such as chewed branches.

In winter elks move between their shelters and feeding grounds, and they try to keep these paths as short as possible. But some motion is necessary, food is needed as well as keeping watch. Sometimes the elk rests on the snow. The colder the weather, the less they move. So, because of this, it is not worth to go looking for elks during hard frosts: this would be a great disservice to the elk, because he would rush away in terror, and lose valuable energy without purpose.
