Whooper swan spring.
In the fields of Läänemaa (Western Estonia) and on the north coast bean goose and whooper swan flocks have already been seen in several places. But it is worth noting that the birds wintering here gather now too. They leave us to fly northwards, to their nesting areas. Redpolls are to be seen in Matsalu, and buntings elsewhere too – the winterers have joined the general migration movement. There is an airport atmosphere in the air: some arrive, some take off, and others are in transit. From this aspect the coastal areas of Estonia are wonderful places for nature lovers. Few countries have such intensely used migration corridors as Estonia. The wetlands are one reason – it is easy for birds to gather and feed there.
And the mightiest migration show is only just beginning.
