Snowflakes in Sun

Snowflake on mitten.

In the last days many may have noticed a curious phenomenon: the sun shone from a blue sky, and even burnt one’s cheeks, but large snowflakes floated in the air. The snow came as if from nowhere – there were no clouds.

Such a fairy-story cold and hot weather can happen in a chilly spring. The low temperatures keep the inner of the clouds icy, and the wind carries the snow away, even to areas where there are no clouds above one’s head. And at the same time the sunshine is almost hot already.

Even in summer rain may fall from clear skies, but temperatures below normal would produce snow slush at best, not beautiful snowflakes.
