What tree is it that is so eye-catching in the streets with its large, glossy buds? The horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) is not really a native plant in Estonia. It comes from south Europe, but manages quite well as an urban tree here, and catches our attention now in early spring with its splendid buds, particularly in sheltered sunny places. The white flower “candles” of the chestnut will not open until early summer.
