Stars in the grass – yellow star-of-Bethlehem

 The yellow star-of-Bethlehem.

The woods are full of differently coloured wood anemones, but here and there a star-faced flower can be seen too – the yellow star-of-Bethlehem (Gagea lutea). This plant from the lily family (Liliaceae) seems to like being near people: you can find it in the lawn in your garden - but also in broad-leaf forests. The star-of-Bethlehem is like the spirit of spring – airy and delicate, narrow leaves, many bright star flowers on a slender stalk. And it is worth remembering that where the star-of-Bethlehem grows, another early spring flowering plant can be found, the bird-in-a-bush (Corydalis).
