A time for learning birdsong

Excursions for birdsong enthusiasts are arranged in spring to woods and parks, but you can organise a personal learning excursion on your own too. Getting up early in the morning is necessary; then walk to a nearby park or a cemetery. When you arrive there, it is helpful to begin with listening for familiar melodies. A very well-known bird song is presented by the chiffchaff or, in Estonian, silksolk, whose “tsila-tsalp, tsilp-tsalp” sounds all over Estonia. So, one friend is already found! And when there are quite new and strange sounds – then it is a good idea to record them on the mobile, and on coming home, to compare the record with recorded bird calls on a CD from the bookshop. These recordings usually contain well-known birds and their calls, and learning is easy, with a little good will. On your next walk in the woods the trees are already full of new friends.
