Common swift.
At last all four birds whose arrivals are monitored in the international net project “Spring awake” are here: the white stork, the cuckoo, the barn swallow and the common swift. The common swift (Apus apus) has been seen even in northern Estonia by Tallinna Linnuklubi, the Tallinn Bird Club, and with its arrival stable warm weather should come soon too. The common swift reminds of a swallow, with a small forked tail, but it isn’t a swallow. It is only now that this fast-flying bird starts building its nest. Caution, all who start outside work on your houses in June – the common swift likes to build its nest under the roofs of our houses. What to do in such a case? Well, there is always the option to postpone the repairs a little, until the young in the nest have grown up.
