Hare weddings.
Since hares bear several litters in a year mating time is on again. The spring litter of the aspen-nibbler has already grown up. How do they manage all this? The getation period lasts about 40 days and the mother suckles the young for a month. After that they become independent. Before autumn the hares may even manage to raise a third litter.
In Estonia there are two species of the long-ears. The best known and most common is the brown hare, the mountain hare occurs less often. The mountain hare is smaller and has shorter ears.
