Cock-or-hen - grass guessing game

Common bent.

“Cock-or-hen, young-or-old”: the long spikelets of the common or brown bent (Agrostis capillaries) can be pulled off to make a bunch of “feathers” for the guessing game. This handful will mostly give you the tail feathers of a cock. But there are huge numbers of different grasses to use for the game:  reed grasses (Calamagrostis), fescues (Festuca), bluegrasses (Poa) ... Do you know which one gives the safest “cock-or-hen” guess? And which is the most unpredictable?

The common bent is a widely occurring grass in Estonia, so why not use some flowering heads for the cock or hen guessing game.
