Caterpillar of ground lackey on meadowsweet.
The caterpillars of snout moths (Lasiocampidae) are often sturdy and hairy and colourful. Soon they will enter the pupal stage; the cocoon is generally spun on the plant that is used for food. In June-July the moth develops in the cocoon, and then in turn starts a new life cycle. The caterpillars that hatch in the second half of summer of course eat quite as voraciously as the spring-time ones – sometimes feeding on plants important to humans.
