Yellowrattles flowering

Greater yellowrattle.

The greater yellowrattle and the yellowrattle are flowering. There is a rule of thumb to help to distinguish between them: the yellowrattle (Rhinanthus minor) is a dark green plant all over, the greater yellowrattle is lighter green. The photo shows too that on the upper lip of the yellowrattles is a tiny dark-coloured tooth. On the greater yellowrattle (Rhinanthus serotinus) this little tooth grows somewhat longer than on the yellowrattle.

The third species in Estonia, the unique Saaremaa yellowrattle (Rhinanthus osiliensis), begins flowering later, in the middle of summer.
