Successful nesting of great egret

The photo shows two young egrets - who are already fledglings - at the nest (the third bird is a grey heron). On the ground around the nest tree there are quite a number of white great egret feathers.

Reimo Rander and Jan Siimson have found that in Ilmatsalu in Tartumaa there are at least 3  young birds in the great egret nest in the heron colony. Obviously the birds are already fledglings. It is the first documented and successful nesting of this species in Estonia. Last year the great egret nest in the Ilmatsalu colony wasn’t inspected regularly, and so only a nesting attempt was recorded.
