What are they doing here? Cat inspecting hedgehogs.

If in early spring the hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) can be seen in broad daylight – it is badly hungry after the winter – then now it may rather be met with at night and dusk. This spiny creature likes being near houses, so it is worthwhile to sit quietly until dusk in the summerhouse, or even get up before sunrise and take a stroll in the yard; there is a fair chance to meet a  hedgehog sniffing around the house. It is looking for food. Crumbs spilt by the children in daytime are nosed up. The large hedgehog family must now begin fattening up for the coming winter sleep.
