Bellflower time

Creeping bellflower.

Bellflowers are flowering now: the creeping bellflower (Campanula rapunculoides) can be recognised from its row of flowers arranged along one side of the stem. On the other widely occurring bellflower – the peach-leaved bellflower – the flowers point every which way. And the clustered bellflower carries most of its flowers together in a ball. The creeping bellflower flowers in meadows and on road verges until September, and it is best to admire it where it grows, because in a vase it nearly doesn’t keep at all.
