The interesting thing with the flowers of the white campion (Silene pratensis) is that the sexes are separate; the male flowers look slightly different from the female ones. The characteristic balloon-like calyx is rounded on some plants – these are female flowers – and narrow on some – these are male. People used to call the campion, that belongs to the Silene genus, the evening flower because it opens some of its flowers only in the evening. Is that true? Find out for yourself!
