The pollen of the mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) causes many allergy sufferers to sneeze. It is carried quite far with the wind, so the atchoo! can happen even in the middle of a city – in that case, look for waste plots of land when you search for the culprit. The mugwort grows on derelict land as well as on the seashore; the southernwood (Artemisia abrotanum) in the photo above is only a garden plant in Estonia. The southernwood too flowers in August, and it emits a strong lemon scent.
Those who aren’t allergic to mugwort can bring their noses to that too, to learn what it smells like
