Summer's colours: loosestrife and willowherb

Purple loosestrife.

The rosebay willowherb is already bursting with white “cotton wool”, and the purple flowers of the plant are fewer, but purple colour has by no means disappeared in nature. In addition to heather, the purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) with its candle-like flowerheads is in full flower in September, and so is the greater willowherb (Epilobium hirsutum). The latter grows up to one and a half metre tall. Both occur all over Estonia.
