Patterns in nature: sea sandwort rhizomes

Rhizome of sea sandwort.

After a stormy day a fascinating world of roots may be open to walkers on seashores where waves have washed the roots out of the sand. The snowy white rhizome of teh sea sandwort (Honkenya peploides) for instance turns and twists like a pattern from the East, and it is soft and smooth to touch. If a piece of root still sits in the ground it might be nice to cover it with some more sand. The sea sandwort is good for the shores, it keeps the sand in place.
