Coral tooth mushroom in Rõuge

The Rõuge mushroom week had a splendid start. The coral tooth or comb tooth mushroom (Hericium coralloides) isn’t seen every day.

The coral tooth mushroom is thought to be the most beautiful mushroom in the world by many mushroom enthusiasts. Encountering it always lifts the spirit – as if one had found, on a warm autumn day, miniature icicles dripped on to a decaying tree trunk.

Haven’t you felt the urge to go climbing between those icicles?
Even if only in your mind and imaginatioan?

?

There are insects who have been granted such a chance. The tiny springtails can investigate the beautiful mushroom from the inside too and even hang on to the icicles.

What a delight this must be considered by a human mind!

And by the way, there is a more detailed article in Õhtuleht about this mushroom.
