Fourth day of Mushroom Week

Tall russule (Russula paludosa).

In the forest the mind relaxes and stress vanishes. You look around in the incredibly splendid mushroom forests of Rõuge, enjoy, and think. All sorts of wonderful ideas cross your mind.

Red is the symbol of love. If a man brings a bunch of red roses to a woman, the message is clear: "I love you!” But roses aren’t in flower in autumn. But you can find any amount of beautiful red mushrooms in the forest instead, like the tall russule. If you present your love with a basket of tall russules – will the message get across? Surely it is worth trying. Apart from its beauty the tall russule is highly valued for eating.

And if the charms of the russulas aren’t enough, then it is time for a change of strategy. The road to the heart goes by way of the stomach. So if you add a pinewood king bolete (Boletus pinophilus) the message should be clearly read by the eyes as well as the stomach. Pine boletes are very highly treasured for eating.

But a good bolete year happens only once in every ten years. So maybe  one should still think more often of giving flowers after all? Or going into the mushroom woods with one's love?

Pinewood king bolete.
