Greater spotted eagle Tõnn, born in Estonia last year, is ready to leave Germany on his travels. Yesterday, in the evening of September 19, he was only about 20 kilometres from the French border. The nearest town is Landau (in der Pfalz).
The map shows Tõnn’s route from Northern Latvia to the French border.
We only received the rather imprecise Argos position from near Landau in the evening, but at 16.00 local time Tõnn, according to the GPS, was flying above Hanhofen (5 km to the west of Speyer).

In the same area there are high-voltage power transmission lines. The photographer says that it is uncomfortable to be near them: the air vibrates and the tension can be felt in the air. Let’s hope that Tõnn keeps away from such an unpleasant place. A great number of large birds are killed at power lines, particularly storks and birds of prey such as eagles, hawks, and buzzards.
