Red and eatable - rose hips

Rose hip.

When your stomach feels hollow in the woods in autumn there are bilberries, crowberries, cloudberries, bog bilberries – all there for a snack. Or the fruits of the barberry bush. There are the fruits, hips, of wild roses (fam. Rosa) too for an energy boost, but they should be handled with some care: there are not only sharp thorns on the bushes, but also, surrounding the seeds, hairy scales that make the skin feel curiously prickly and itchy. Before eating it is best to clean out seeds and scales from the rose hips, with a knife or using gloves, and then enjoy this vitamin bomb.
