Redpoll.
Winter guests in Estonia are few, but one of them – the redpoll (Carduelis flammea) - we expect already in September. Now, in October-November, the greater part of the redpolls arrive. On Arne’s photo the bird is busy on its own, but mostly this species moves in flocks, in groups of trees and in forests. For food the redpolls pick seeds from alder and birch catkins.
In summer we only see redpolls very occasionally.
